Cullinan Ivanov were invited by Aura Holdings to develop a concept for a new golf club and Seniors Living Development at Cumberland Golf Club. Working with Thomson Adsett we developed a scheme comprising 188 Seniors apartments and a new 4,250m2 golf clubhouse building over two levels. The club comprised a basement level with 120 space undercroft parking, golfing amenities including lockers, changing rooms, golf cart storage and pro shop. The main floorplate was elevated and featured a gentle boomerang shaped plan to focus the main lounge, dining and function rooms toward the key vista over the lake and course beyond.
A stone clad façade formed the backdrop to the entry sequence and porte cochere to create a sense of timeless elegance and a traditional country club feel. A significant challenge in the design was the siting of both the clubhouse and the seniors concept which needed to address significant falls across the land, particularly in the area of the clubhouse. The clubhouse siting was in part chosen to allow the existing club to remain functioning whilst the new club was constructed, thus allowing a seamless transition and full operations to be maintained.
